Ask Claude About Your Agency: the CrewDriven AI Assistant

By the CrewDriven team · 6 min read · Updated October 5, 2026

Every CrewDriven workspace has its own MCP server — a standard connection that AI apps such as Claude, Claude Code, Cursor, and ChatGPT use to read data from other software. Connect it once, and you can ask in plain language what last month’s margin was, which clients owe you money, or who has room for another project, and get answers from your live numbers instead of a spreadsheet export. It is read-only, every person signs in with their own account, and you can disconnect anyone at any time.

What the AI assistant is

MCP, the Model Context Protocol, is an open standard for connecting AI assistants to the tools a business already uses. CrewDriven runs a read-only MCP server for each workspace at https://<workspace>.crewdriven.com/mcp, where <workspace> is your workspace’s subdomain.

When you ask your AI app a question about the agency, it calls that server, reads the relevant clients, projects, hours, invoices, and payments, and answers with the numbers — and it can explain how it got them. Nothing is pasted into a chat by hand, and nothing goes stale.

The assistant reads; it never writes. It cannot create, edit, or delete clients, invoices, payments, or hours.

What you can ask

A few questions to start with. The assistant picks the right data and explains the result:

  • “What was our revenue and margin last month?”
  • “Which clients have overdue invoices, and how much is outstanding?”
  • “Who is overloaded this week, and who has capacity?”
  • “How is the retainer for Acme burning down?”
  • “Which hours have not been invoiced yet, by client?”
  • “Which clients and projects were least profitable last quarter?”
  • “What does revenue look like for the next six months?”
  • “Who is off next week, and are any time-off requests waiting for approval?”

What the assistant can see

When someone connects, the sign-in screen lists exactly what the assistant will be able to read:

  • Clients, projects, budgets, and retainer balances
  • Team members, assignments, capacity, and time entries
  • Invoices, payments, and profit and loss
  • Analytics: profitability, business health, and revenue forecasts

Team members’ bank details, tax and ID numbers, and home addresses stay hidden from the assistant. A module switched off under Settings → Features takes its data out of the assistant too.

How to connect

An admin switches the AI Assistant on under Settings → Features. Every app then uses the same workspace URL and signs you in through your browser:

claude.ai and Claude Desktop

  1. Open Settings → Connectors.
  2. Click Add custom connector.
  3. Paste your workspace URL and click Add:
    https://<workspace>.crewdriven.com/mcp
  4. Click Connect, sign in to CrewDriven with your own account, and approve read-only access.

On Claude Team or Enterprise, an owner adds the connector once under Organization settings → Connectors, and each member then connects it from their own settings.

Claude Code

  1. In a terminal, register the server:
claude mcp add --transport http crewdriven https://<workspace>.crewdriven.com/mcp
  2. Inside Claude Code, run /mcp, pick crewdriven, and choose Authenticate — the browser opens the CrewDriven sign-in.

Cursor, ChatGPT, and other MCP apps

  1. Add an HTTP (streamable) MCP server, or a custom connector, with your workspace URL.
  2. Apps that support OAuth find the sign-in on their own: a browser window opens for you to sign in and approve, and the app keeps itself signed in.

In ChatGPT, custom connectors depend on your plan and settings.

Security and control

Read-only

The assistant can look things up but cannot change anything in the workspace.

Each person signs in for themselves

Access works through OAuth: every person authorizes their own AI app with their own CrewDriven account. Nobody shares a password or an API key.

Admins and managers by default

The workspace decides which roles may connect. Everyone else is refused at sign-in.

Disconnect anyone, anytime

Settings → AI Assistant lists every connected app and when it was last used. Revoke one and that app is signed out immediately.

Personal details stay out

Bank details, tax and ID numbers, and home addresses of team members are never exposed to the assistant.

No training on your data

CrewDriven does not train AI models on your data. What the assistant reads is handled under the terms of the AI app you connect, so check that app’s data settings.

Why a live connection beats pasting a spreadsheet into a chat

Exporting a report and pasting it into a chatbot works once. The numbers are stale by next week, the export carries more than the question needed, and nobody can see who shared what.

With the AI assistant, the AI reads only what a question needs, at the moment it is asked, under the roles your team already has in CrewDriven — and every connection is visible and revocable.

Frequently asked questions

What is an MCP server?
MCP, the Model Context Protocol, is an open standard that lets AI apps such as Claude, Cursor, and ChatGPT connect to other software and read its data through a defined set of tools. CrewDriven runs one for each workspace, at https://<workspace>.crewdriven.com/mcp.
Which AI apps work with CrewDriven?
Claude (claude.ai and Claude Desktop), Claude Code, Cursor, and other apps that support remote MCP servers over HTTP with OAuth sign-in, including ChatGPT where custom connectors are available on your plan.
Can the AI assistant change or delete data?
No. Every tool it has is read-only. It can look up clients, projects, hours, invoices, payments, and reports, but it cannot create, edit, or delete anything.
Who in my team can connect?
Admins and managers by default. The workspace decides which roles may connect, everyone else is refused at sign-in, and each person connects with their own account.
Can the assistant see bank details or personal data?
Team members’ bank details, tax and ID numbers, and home addresses stay hidden from it. It sees what an admin or manager sees in reports: clients, projects, team assignments and rates, hours, invoices, payments, and profit and loss.
Is the AI assistant free?
Yes, during the launch period, like every CrewDriven module. After launch, pricing is modular: you pay only for the modules you switch on. Your AI app — Claude, ChatGPT, or Cursor — is billed separately by its own provider.
How do I disconnect an app?
Open Settings → AI Assistant, find the connection under Connected apps, and revoke it. The app is signed out immediately. Each person can also see and revoke their own connections from their profile.
